Цитата из довольно самой по себе интересной статьи "90 Years of America's Love Affair With Jewelry"

Ninety years ago, President Theodore Roosevelt could be spotted with a trusty pocketwatch strapped to the vests of his three-piece suits. His pocketwatch brand is unknown. Many subsequent presidents, including Harry S. Truman, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush, preferred to wear Corum's patriotic "Twenty Dollar Coin Watches," which were made from actual government-minted coins. These rare coin watches showcased an American Eagle, the symbol of the United States.

When President Bill Clinton took office, the controversy that would haunt his administration began with his choice of watch. He wore a Timex and a tuxedo to his inaugural ball, which naturally drew criticism from a few jealous Swiss brands.

They still plead for the president to wear a Swiss watch, but to no avail. President Clinton's heart rests with Timex, an American watch company that has a manufacturing facility in the president's hometown of Little Rock, Ark.
