"
There is a regulation collar or disk which has slots cut into it that slides back and forth as you move the adjustment lever. To get a feel for this, move the adjustment lever back and forth and observe that this slotted disc moves right along with the lever.
Most times these "slots" are large enough to place a screwdriver blade into them (for the purpose explained in the next paragraph) but in the 540 caliber and higher models these slots are very small and shallow and you must use a fairly small (thin) screwdriver in order to block the collar.
To "get" more fast adjustment on the Atmos, you will need to go all the way fast with the lever and then block the collar (slotted disc) with a screwdriver or some such and then as you block and hold the collar in place, move the adjustment lever all the way to the slowest position.
Once accomplished you then have another complete range of fast adjustment to play with and you must use the adjustment lever exactly the same way as you did before you made the above adjustment. In other words, you are finished using the screwdriver and all is back to the way it was before you made the adjustment except you now have the entire range on the adjustment scale to speed up you clock.
If the original set-up of the Atmos was done correctly and if this procedure was not performed earlier, then you can do this once more, if needed, but never more than two total times.
The reverse is true if you need to make the clock run slower. Just do exactly the opposite of what's stated above.
Each time you do this, it will net you 100 to 120 seconds per day because each slot mark on the regulation scale represents 10 seconds per day.
If your clock is continuing to run either fast or slow after you have done the above twice, then the clock is telling you that it is in need of a complete overhaul."
