How to find out where Orient watch
was made (assembled).
One way to know if a watch was made in Japan is the factory code "S" which precedes the model number of a watch.
For example, in the case of the Mako USA vs their regular Mako counterparts
"S"AA0200BD9 as opposed to
"F"AA02002D9.
In more contemporary models, the factory code
RN and
RE, denote that the watch was made in Japan,
whereas factory code
RA denotes that the watch was assembled in China.
For example, the Orient Star Semi-Skeleton
RE-DK0001L00A would be assembled completely in Japan,
whereas the Bambino Small Seconds
RA-AP0003S10A would have been assembled in China.
Not all models necessarily have "made in Japan" counterparts or vice versa.
The code "WZ" which precedes JDM models would also denote that the watch was made in Japan.
A few other things to consider;
All of the movements are made in-house, in Japan.
The individual components (i.e the case band hands etc...) that make up the watch are not necessarily made 100% in Japan in the same vein that "made in America" products are required to be.
The facility in China where most other watches are assembled is completely owned and operated by Seiko Epson and is not a third party contractor.

Да ещё время снятия оцинковки / позолоты (для восстановления покрытия гидролизом) в корпусах японских почти в три раза дольше чем в корпусах китайских. То есть японское покрытие намного крепче или технологически более выдержано.
