"The firm "Manufacture des Montres Paul Buhre SA" opened a small shop in St. Petersburg Russia in 1815. Paul Leopold Buhre along with other Swiss watchmakers (Courvoiser and Cie and Tissot) was attracted to the area by Catherine II's efforts to start a watch and clock factory. Buhre's main factory was located in Le Locle Switzerland. It expanded rapidly from its trade in Russia and by 1945 was touting 300 observatory prizes including Neuchatel and Breguet competitions. The firm continued through the 1970's with ads listing marine and wrist chronometers."
