For the 6th year in a row Glashütte Original welcomed visitors from around the world to its lounge on the 24th floor of the Kollhoff Tower at Potsdamer Platz. From the opening countdown to the closing ceremonies of the 66th Berlinale the Saxon watchmaker was pleased to host hundreds of film industry professionals, journalists, fans and friends of the art of making movies.

Among the industry and festival players who dropped in for a close encounter with the fine art of German watchmaking were the American singer and actor Nick Jonas, American actress Cynthia Nixon, German director and producer Tom Tykwer, German actor Sebastian Koch and German cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, along with Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick. Another highprofile visitor to the lounge was German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

This year in the lounge the firm told the story of the Senator Cosmopolite, the exceptional timepiece designed for the modern world traveller; different IATA codes lead to faraway cities and key moments from the history of the Berlinale. Also featured in the lounge was the new Senator Chronometer, premiering in Berlin in advance of its official debut at Baselworld 2016 next month.

Glashütte Original was also fortunate again this year to host a series of receptions; among the more memorable was that held in honour of Michael Ballhaus, recipient of this year's Honorary Golden Bear for a lifetime of exceptional achievement. Studio Babelsberg and their many friends and followers were also welcomed.
Almost every day during the festival the German watchmaker hosted warm-ups for the young directors, casts and crews of films showing in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section, and for the 5th year in a row the manufactory presented the “Made in Germany − Perspektive Fellowship” award. This year's prize-winner was Janna Ji Wonders, happily on hand in the lounge to celebrate her award, talk to journalists and show off the trophy made, as every year, by apprentice watchmakers from Glashütte Original's own “Alfred Helwig” School of Watchmaking. Janna joins previous winners Annekatrin Hendel, Jan Speckenbach, Sandra Kaudelka and Sebastian Mez (ex aequo) and Oskar Sulowski, all up-and-coming German directors who have benefitted from the generous Glashütte Original-funded 15,000 euro award to work on new projects after showing their debut efforts at the festival. This year also saw continued support from the brand for the Retrospective section, whose efforts to bring the history of the art to life strike a chord with our own respect for traditional craftsmanship in watchmaking.

It has been a great pleasure to see so many friends and connoisseurs of the German art of watchmaking at the Berlinale 2016.
