Special Forces Submariner
We were just thinking it was high time (ahem) we featured another cool vintage watch when Fourtané’s Kris Bonifas came up with the goods.
Here we have a 1964 Rolex Submariner on a Special Forces steel bracelet custom-made for a Green Beret during the Vietnam War.
In the ’60s and ’70s, these stainless-steel “Olongapo Bands” were a trademark of Special Forces officers, Bonifas tells us.
“The bracelets were made in Olongapo City in the province of Zambales in the Philippines near the US Naval Base Subic Bay, where elite military teams would go to for R&R during Vietnam War.
“The bands were custom-made for each individual soldier, who would order the combination of insignias they desired to represent their respective accomplishments and skills.”
The Sub pictured here features a custom matte finish as well as a “Master Parachutist” badge (top) and a US Divers badge (above) representing Combat Diver Qualification and proficiency on the bracelet.
Priced at $8,800, it will certainly set you apart from the pack of Submariner-sporting wannabe badasses.
Though to do it justice, you should probably also join the Navy SEALS…
